No Evidence That Pastor Mrs. Siju Iluyomade Said RCCG Is Operating On Franchise

On February 26th, 2024, a user on X (formerly Twitter) with the username @justsociety4all claimed that a Pastor Dr Mrs Siju Iluyomade, the wife of the Special Assistant to the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Christian Social Responsibility and Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG, City of David, stated that the church operates on a franchise basis, implying that each branch of the church is owned by individuals who render financial returns.
The X user implied, quoting the Pastor, that Mrs. Iluyomade stated, “Every branch of RCCG has its individual owners while a percentage is paid to the headquarters so anyone can open the church in his or her own street and run his or her own church on franchise.”
This claim surfaced on social media after the Pastor celebrated her 60th birthday on February 8th, 2024, in grand style with distinguished guests, including billionaires and monarchs, which has turned out to be controversial.
In light of the events surrounding the death of Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc and a member of RCCG City of David, who recently died in an American helicopter crash alongside his wife, son, and business partner, public outrage was directed towards the party. Mrs. Iluyomade continued to host her lavish party despite losing some of the Church’s influential members.
As a fall-out, the Iluyomades suffered negative publicity. It was in the middle of all that the viral claim attributed to Pastor Mrs. Iluyomade surfaced in the media.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is a Pentecostal megachurch and denomination in Lagos, Nigeria with a large membership and organisation. The claim that the wife of the senior pastor in the church made such a statement prompted iVerify to confirm whether or not Mrs. Iluyomade made those comments about the operational structure of the church.
